The following is information that you will need to bring to the MANDATORY ORIENTATION SEMINAR. Orientation is where you will become familiar with the specific program requirements and you will receive your TEAMS/AmeriCorps Resource Manual. Attendance at our Pedagogical Seminars is critical to meeting requirements for receiving the AmeriCorps Education Award.

You will need to register for your preferred orientation time on a first-come, first-served basis.You only need to attend 1 (one) orientation session.

Please bring your:

1) Mentor Verification/Job Description Form and 2) Criminal Background Check Verification Form to your orientation. I have included a “What is a mentor?” description, so when you choose your mentor, you can give this letter to the potential mentor and they will know their responsibilities. You can find more information in the Frequently Asked Questions section of this document. Each form is explained in detail below.

Mentor Verification Form: Each Fellow in TEAMS must self-select someone at their school site to serve as his or her mentor. This person is simply responsible for verifying the hours you serve and signing off on your evaluation documents. This can be your principal, assistant principal, master teacher, or co-teacher, but it cannot be another current TEAMS Fellow. It can be a former TEAMS Fellow or TEAMS Alumni. 

Background Check Verification Form: This form certifies that you have completed and passed criminal background and sex offender checks through your school and/or district. Your principal must sign this form and stamp it with your school’s stamp or seal. If your school does not have a stamp, please submit a letter verifying that you have completed criminal background and sex offender checks through your district on school letterhead and signed by your principal.
